Loyal customers who have enjoyed dining in, take out, and delivery at Devine Foods at 2702 Devine will certainly miss this restaurant that was opened 29 years ago by Angelo and Georgia Trifos. The couple plans to retire and close the restaurant in November.

Every review of the restaurant paints it as friendly, good service, excellent cuisine, with reasonable prices. The small intimate cafe-like diner specializes in Greek and American foods: authenic Greek gyros, spanakopita, pastichio, and mousaka as well as burgers, grilled chicken, and vegetable lasagna and, of course, delicious desserts.

Angelo was born on the Greek Island of Corfu, moved to Canada, and later came to Columbia where his wife Georgia lived. They opened Devine Foods in 1988. Angelo says it is time for him to retire as he is 78 years old, and the work is getting too hard.

To summarize how people have felt about Devine Foods, one of the reviews said, “I love Devine foods. They have awesome Greek food. Love their hummus and their Greek salad. My husband likes their pitas. Their desserts are homemade and sinfully yummy. This is a great local place hiding on Devine street!”

Publisher’s note: We at The Columbia Star appreciate the support we have received from Devine Foods for so many years. We will certainly miss our partnership with this excellent local establishment.
