The defending Class 3A Lower State Champion Dreher Blue Devils travelled to Spring Valley to take on the defending Class 4A Lower State Champion Vikings Monday April 23. The Vikings took an early 2- 0 lead on goals by Antoine Parris and Zach Houghton, and went on to defeat the Blue Devils 3- 1.

The match- up of the two powerhouse Midlands’ programs was meaningless to region standings, but both coaches felt the match was vital to their teams’ preparation for the upcoming playoffs.

Spring Valley head coach Dave Clark said, “It’s a very important game, because it’s a game where we’re trying to get ready for the playoffs, and they’re trying to get ready for the playoffs. Momentum is very big right now, so you want to be playing your best soccer come playoff time.”

Dreher head coach Matt Hornsby agreed, “This was a good game for us, because we’ll see some teams eventually that will be this calibur. So it was a good schedule for us to have them right before playoffs.”

The Blue Devils fall to 15- 4 but finished with a perfect 10- 0 Region III- 3A record and the region championship. They will host a first round playoff match Tuesday, May 1 in the upper state bracket of the state playoffs.
