DAV Charitable Service Trust awards a $25,400 grant to Senior Resources to help provide meals to homebound veterans

Senior Resources has received grant support in the amount of $25,400 from DAV Charitable Service Trust to provide nutritional support through Meals on Wheels to veterans in Richland County. The funding will be used to provide the delivery of a hot, daily meal to 12 homebound veterans for one year.

“With our community’s rich military heritage, a large number of retired and disabled veterans call Columbia and Richland County home. We are honored to again receive this grant to ensure the nutritional needs of this special group of Americans are met each day with a warm smile and a hot meal by one of our faithful volunteers” said Andrew Boozer, executive director of Senior Resources, Inc.

Senior Resources currently delivers hot and frozen meals to the doorsteps of over 700 elderly and disabled residents of Richland County, including 161 veterans. Veteran Meals on Wheels client, Mr. J served our country in the Army and continued serving as a firefighter for 30 years after his military service. As a recipient of Meals on Wheels, volunteers visit Mr. J every day, usually greeting him and his dog on his front porch. One of Senior Resources’ current volunteers, also a firefighter and a veteran, enjoys delivering Meals on Wheels to the veteran clients, listening to military stories, but also providing them with comfort, dignity, and the thanks they deserve for their service to our country and community.

As the only provider of Meals on Wheels in Richland County, Senior Resources is committed to providing elderly neighbors and veterans the services they need to remain independent and healthy. Thanks to the generous grant from DAV Charitable Service Trust Senior Resources will continue to improve the lives of men and women who served.
