The Marriott in Downtown Columbia was the site of the Columbia Junior Cotillion’s 14th Annual Spring Ball. Middle school students from Crayton Middle School, Cardinal Newman, Hand, Heathwood Hall, and Dent practiced manners, escort protocol, line dancing, the foxtrot, and the shag. Jan Cohn, junior cotillion director said, “This is a great group of young people who have participated in all aspects of the Junior Cotillion Program with enthusiasm. Not only did they have the largest number of participants ever in the Best Mannered Teacher Essay Contest, their entries were well written.” Cohn is also impressed with how this group has resisted the urge to socialize only with people they already know. They have embraced the spirit of Junior Cotillion and used their new skills to socialize with a wider peer group and make new friends.
