Dr. Edmund R. Taylor, a descendent of the original settlers of Columbia, has achieved a well deserved milestone – 90 wonderful years of serving his fellow man. He was born in Columbia March 26, 1916, and was educated at UNC-Chapel Hill and Johns Hopkins. After four years of service in WWII, Dr. Taylor did post graduate work at the Mayo Clinic then began his surgery practice in Durham, N.C.

Mary Herbert captured Dr. Taylor in 1946 and dragged him back to Columbia where he practiced medicine for over five decades. The Taylors have four children: Edmund Jr., Mary Beverly Haque, Georgia Brennecke, and George.

Dr. Taylor is as active as he ever was. He plays tennis everyday, tends a farm and forest in Fairfield County, and restores wetlands and streams in Lexington County.

Happy Birthday, Dr. Taylor! The Columbia Star and the citizens of the Midlands wish you continued happiness and prosperity.
