City of Columbia to hold special election for District Four

The Municipal Election Commission of the City of Columbia will hold a special election for the City of Columbia District Four Tuesday, March 28. The following candidates shall be included in this election for a term ending on December 31, 2025: •Beatrice King BeatriceKingforCityCouncil@gmail.com •Peter M. Brown PBrown@colite.com

On December 21, 2021, City Council adopted an ordinance that amends election districts in Columbia based on the 2020 U.S. Census, which complies with the constitutional law of “One Person, One Vote” and requirements in the U.S. Voting Rights Act of 1965. The City of Columbia used this opportunity to reduce the number of neighborhoods split between more than one district.
