Governor Henry McMaster has officially proclaimed June 2025 as Youth Empowerment Month, a statewide recognition of the critical role young people play in shaping the future of the Palmetto State.

More than 70 production team members from Scout Motors came together recently to construct 24 new trailhead kiosks for South Carolina’s Palmetto Trail.

On Thursday, May 22, the City of Columbia honored 17 youth-led groups as Bloomberg Youth Climate Action Fund recipients with the second round of grants sponsored by Bloomberg Philanthropies, aimed at engaging youth ages 15–24 in climate change mitigation. Recipients included Benedict College— Climate Change Storytelling Project, United Way of the Midlands—Young Men Community Garden, South Carolina Wildlife Federation—Columbia EcoLeaders, Columbia College—Koala Organizers and Leaders for Action (KOALA), School of Hospitality and Tourism Management—USC Food Upcycling to Fight Food Insecurity, South Carolina Public Health Association—Climate Action Resilience Week, Office of Sustainability— Food Recovery Intern and Support, Dreher High School—Biodiversity Garden Phase Two, Office of Sustainability—USC Conservation and Stewardship Event Series, Columbia College— From Jerseys to Joy: Upcycled Blankets for Community Impact, Cola Town Bike Collective— Climate Friendly Mobility, Indian Waters Council—Scouting America Scouting for Clean Waterways, Connections Workforce Development Group—Opening Doors to Future Energy Auditors, Riverbanks Zoo and Garden—ZooTeens Composting Connection, Columbia NAACP Youth Council—Youth Disaster Preparedness Program, Darla Moore School of Business—USC Educational Campaign for Bus Use in Columbia, and Office of Sustainability—USC Home Weatherization Program Part Two.

MobilityWorks was scheduled to hold a ribbon cutting May 29, 139 Industrial Drive, Lexington.

Columbia Water was scheduled to begin necessary improvements to its sanitary sewer system in the area of S. Beltline Boulevard, Plowden Road, and Loquat Drive. This will require the closure of S. Beltline Boulevard at Loquat Drive. It is anticipated S. Beltline Boulevard will be closed for three weeks, requiring a significant detour.

Five Points Nails And Spa was scheduled to celebrate its grand opening Wednesday, May 28, at its new location at 2001 Devine Street.

Kumo Kumo Café, an Asian dessert café located inside Bibimbox, serving specialty sweets and drinks, was scheduled to hold its grand opening Thursday, May 29, 275 Park Terrace Drive, Suite #800.

701 Center for Contemporary Art (701 CCA) has announced the residency of two acclaimed architects, Catherine Baker and David Hill, as part of the “Rural Witnesses: Retracing & Reimagining Rural Architecture in the South” exhibition, running through June 15, 2025.
