Ridge View’s five-star superstar G.G. Jackson scored a game-high 22 points to lead the visiting Blazers to a 62-49 victory over a scrappy Spring Valley Vikings team in a District 2, Region 4-5A rivalry game Tuesday, February 1.
Jackson did much of his damage in the third quarter scoring 12 of Ridge View’s 15 points to help the Blazers build a 15-point cushion.
“I definitely think that the schedule that we played really helped us tonight,” Ridge View head coach Yerrick Stoneman said. The Blazers have taken on nationally ranked teams from Florida, Texas, and California among others this season. “I think that was somewhat the difference tonight because the intensity, the physicality of the game really went to our advantage in a way. G.G. had a big third, but I think he also came out and started strong. They like to double-team G.G. in the post, but it’s hard to double him when he can hit a three outside.”
Jackson did hit a 3-pointer and several jumpers, but it was the dunks—five of them on the night, including a reverse ally-oop dunk early on— that got fans on both sides out of their seats.
Ridge View’s Xavier Moultrie chipped in 14 points, which included a floating reverse layup in the second quarter. Donovan Rivers finished with nine points that included a couple of dunks and 3-pointers. Myles Squirewell and Brice Cohen had five points each, Bishop Ukata added three, and T.J. Owens and Nick Letthand finished with two each.
C.J. Rich and Joshua Nelson led the Vikings with 11 points each. Maurice Giles added eight, and Khalil Cooke and Hensley Parks got six each. Kendall Williams had four, and Caleb Temoney finished with three.
