Beware of home repair scam artists

Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott reminds citizens to remain vigilant when hiring contractors to repair their damaged property after tropical storm Irma.

It’s unfortunate, but there are scam artists who prey on victims by taking their hard earned money. These scammers promise to restore your home or property, when in fact they have no intentions of ever doing the work. It happens far too often, and the sheriff is warning citizens to do their homework on those who visit asking to fix the damage you sustained.

If you suspect that you are a victim or know of someone that is, please contact the Richland County Sheriff’s Department

803-576-3102.

Remember, do some research on those who approach you, call the Better Business Bureau, or the Department of Consumer Affairs before hiring someone who knocks on your door.
