All 48 Richland One schools are among the 1,120 schools nationwide to be named as America’s Healthiest Schools for the 2024-2025 school year. For the third year in a row, Richland One has more award winners than any other school district in South Carolina.
The recognition, awarded by Alliance for a Healthier Generation, a leading children’s health organization, honors schools for dedication to supporting the health and well-being of students, staff, and families.
“It’s a significant achievement for all 48 schools in Richland One to be recognized as one of Healthier Generation’s America’s Healthiest Schools for the third consecutive year. This recognition highlights Richland One’s ongoing dedication to providing a healthy and supportive environment for everyone in the school community—students, staff, and families,” said Lisa Curtis, Richland One’s health and physical education coordinator.
“A significant number of schools were honored across multiple topic areas, which further demonstrates their dedication to fostering well-being throughout the school community.”
To be included on the America’s Healthiest Schools list, schools apply for recognition in up to nine health-related categories.
Olympia Learning Center received recognition in six
categories:
•Bolstering Physical Education and Activity
•Supporting School Health Services
•Enriching Health Education
•Implementing Local School Wellness Policy
•Cultivating Staff Well-Being
•Strengthening Social-Emotional Health & Learning
Pine Grove Elementary School received recognition
in five categories:
•Bolstering Physical Education and Activity
•Supporting School Health Services
•Enriching Health Education
•Implementing Local School Wellness Policy
•Cultivating Staff Well-Being
Lower Richland High School and W.A. Perry Middle
School received recognition in four categories:
•Bolstering Physical Education & Activity
•Supporting School Health Services
•Enriching Health Education
•Implementing Local School Wellness Policy
Three Richland One schools were recognized in three categories:
•John P. Thomas Elementary School—Bolstering Physical Education and Activity, Supporting School Health Services, and Cultivating Staff Well-Being
•Southeast Middle School—Bolstering Physical Education and Activity, Supporting School Health Services, and Enriching Health Education
•St. Andrews Middle School—Bolstering Physical Education and Activity, Supporting School Health Services, and Enriching Health Education
Eleven Richland One schools received recognition in two categories:
•A.C. Moore Elementary School—Bolstering Physical Education and Activity and Supporting School Health Services
•Brockman Elementary School—Bolstering Physical Education and Activity, and Supporting School Health Services
•Crayton Middle School—Bolstering Physical Education and Activity and Supporting School Health Services
•Dreher High School—Bolstering Physical Education and Activity and Supporting School Health Services
•Eau Claire High School—Bolstering Physical Education and Enriching Health Education
•Forest Heights Elementary School—Bolstering Physical Education and Activity and Supporting School Health Services
•Heyward Gibbes Middle School—Bolstering Physical Education and Activity and Supporting School Health Services
•H.B. Rhame Elementary School—Bolstering Physical Education and Activity and Supporting School Health Services
•Hand Middle School—Bolstering Physical Education and Activity and Supporting School Health Services
•Hopkins Middle School—Bolstering Physical Education and Activity and Supporting School Health Services
•Satchel Ford Elementary School—Bolstering Physical Education and Activity and Supporting School Health Services
Heyward Career and Technology Center and Pendergrass Fairwold School were recognized in the Supporting School Health Services category.
All other Richland One elementary, middle, and high schools, as well as Carolina School for Inquiry, were recognized in the Bolstering Physical Education and Activity category.
