Despite a 2-7 overall record and a 1-3 Region 5- 4A campaign, the Airport Eagles earned a spot in the 4A playoffs as a No. 4 seed.
The Eagles will travel to Hartsville Friday, November 5 to face the Red Foxes in the opening round.
“I hope we can play better than we have played,” head coach Kirk Burnett said. “I’m glad we get to play another game. We’ve played Hartsville about four or five times since I’ve been here. We know Coach ( Jeff ) Calabrese very well. It’s going to be a good atmosphere for us to play in.”
Burnett said Hartsville’s rushing attack is hard to stop. The Red Foxes’ offense is averaging 35.7 points per game.
However, he feels the Hartsville defense isn’t as strong as some in the past.
For the season, Hartsville’s defense is giving up 28.4 points per game.
Airport has struggled on both sides of the ball, averaging 15.1 points per game on offense and giving up an average of 35.4 points per game on defense.
Burnett said his offense and special teams can’t give up points through turnovers and long returns. He says his defense has to make the Red Foxes earn their points.
Some key players for Airport will be quarterback Tyler Dasher, wide receiver Kendell Stroman, and linebackers Blaine Redmond and Kaine Williams.
