Advertisement of vacancies on various boards and commissions



The City of Columbia is accepting applications to fill several vacancies on the following boards and commissions.

•Central Midlands Council of Governments—seeking to fill one vacancy.

The Central Midlands Council of Governments’ purpose is to prepare studies and makes recommendations on matter affecting the public health, control, utilities, planning, development, and such other matters as the common interest of the participating governments may dictate. The board is comprised of representatives from surrounding counties and municipalities in those surrounding counties. The number of delegates from each entity is based off its population. Term—three years

•Citizens Advisory Committee for Community Development—seeking to fill three vacancies.

The purpose of this committee is to make important recommendations for the use of Community Development Block Grant (CDBG), Housing Opportunities for Persons with Aids (HOPWA), and Columbia Assisting Neighborhood Development Opportunities (CANDO) funds, advises the mayor and council on the needs of neighborhoods, reviews amendments and makes appropriate comments on policies. Term—four years.

•Climate Protection Action Committee (CPAC)— seeking to fill three voting vacancies

The Climate Protection Action Committee (CPAC) is a volunteer group whose mission is to develop and advocate effective strategies to mitigate greenhouse gas emissions, adapt to climate change, conserve natural resources, and otherwise protect the environment at a city level, while also fostering an improved quality of life for the citizens of the City of Columbia. Term—three years

•Columbia Housing Authority (CHA)—seeking to fill two vacancies.

The purpose of the Columbia Housing Authority is “to meet the emerging affordable housing needs of low to moderate-income individuals and families in Columbia and Richland County while promoting self-reliance and improving their quality of life”. Term—five years.

•Commercial Revolving Loan Fund (CRLF)—seeking to fill two vacancies; one small business owner and one attorney.

The purpose of this committee is to review and approve/disapprove applications for loans from the City of Columbia Commercial Revolving Loan Fund. Individuals applying for this board must be a Small business owner or an Attorney. Term—two years

•Design Development Review Commission (DDRC)—seeking to fill three vacancies: an architect, and individual with demonstrated preservation experience or an architectural historian; community representative.

The purpose of the Design/Development Review Commission (DDRC) is to review and approve work proposed within the city’s historic districts and urban design areas and upon designated landmarks. Term— three years

Deadline—Applications are due no later than May 31, 2023.
