Ridge View High School HOSA students excel at State Leadership Conference

CPS first place team, Faith Thompson, Miranda Hurt, and Iyanna Chapman CPS first place team, Faith Thompson, Miranda Hurt, and Iyanna Chapman Thirty-one Ridge View HOSA (Health Occupation Students of America) competed in North Charleston at the 2019 S.C. HOSA State Leadership Conference.

This years’ conference had 1,842 competitors. Our students competed in knowledge and skills tests, leadership activities, and teamwork Events, consisting of 53 various competition topics.

Seniors Faith Thompson and Miranda Hurt won SC HOSA Scholarships. Iyanna Chapman, Miranda Hurt, and Faith Thompson won first place in Creative Problem Solving. This is the third time this trio has received first place medals at the state competition.

Junior Erika VanAlstine is also a three-peat medalist. She placed second on the Pathophysiology Knowledge Test. In June, these students will attend the International Competition at Disney World.

First time competitors Omaya Goodwin, Kaya Sayers, Kaci Boling, and Taylor Cullum performed high enough on the knowledge tests they were able to move to the second round, the skills competition. Their areas of expertise was CPR/First Aid (Goodwin and Sayers), Biomedical Lab Science (Boling), and Physical Therapy (Cullum).
