Council approves first readings of ordinances, resolutions

Columbia City Council held its monthly meeting Tuesday, January 8.

During the consent agenda, council approved a request to rescind the awarding of a joint maintenance services agreement with L-J, Inc. for maintenance work on Devils Ditch in Rosewood. The contract was not to exceed $567,889.85. Columbia water made the request, which was approved by council on October 16, 2018. Maintenance of Devils Ditch has been a topic of much discussion over recent years by the South Kilbourne Neighborhood Association.

Council approved a second reading of an annexation, interim comprehensive plan map amendment, and an interim zoning map amendment to 112 Silo Court.

Council approved the first reading of an ordinance amending the 1998 Code of Ordinances regarding motor vehicles and traffic. The passing of the ordinance’s first reading was the second step of a public hearing. Council also approved the first reading of an ordinance regarding establishing a moratorium on shared mobility vehicles.

Council approved a resolution certifying building sites as abandon buildings pursuant to the South Carolina Abandon Buildings Revitalization Act.

Another resolution approved authorizes the city manager to execute a Naming Rights Agreement between the City of Columbia and Darnall W. and Susan F. Boyd Foundation.

The final resolution authorizes the city manager to execute a purchase agreement for bulk water to Stonegate Subdivisions between the City of Columbia and Carolina Water Services.
