Cavaliers down Blue Devils

Photo by Perry McLeod Norman Nowell had a team high 23 points, Calvin Hall chipped in 12, and Durand Brown and Tyrik Grayson had 10 points each as Richland Northeast got its first win under new head coach JoJo English 62-52 over the Dreher Blue Devils Tuesday, November 27.

Hall started the game with a 3-pointer. Dreher responded with four points from Jordan Jennings to take a one point lead.

The Cavaliers responded with an 11-4 run to close out the quarter and lead 14-8. Brown, Nowell, Hall, and Grayson scored during the run.

The back-and-forth continued in the second quarter. Dreher started with an 8-1 run with points coming from Louis Parr and Devario Sheppard to take a 16-15 lead. A bucket from Nowell put Richland Northeast on top again. Then Jordan King responded with a 3-pointer to give the Blue Devils a two-point edge.

Photo by Perry McLeod Hall answered with a tying layup, Nowell added a bucket, and Jordan Pratt converted two free-throws to give Richland Northeast a 23-19 advantage.

Dreher outscored the Cavaliers 6-3 to end the quarter down 26-25. Sheppard, King, and Jabari Holas scored for the Blue Devils, while Grayson and Nowell got buckets for Richland Northeast.

Nowell led the way for the Cavaliers in the third quarter with nine points. Pratt scored five and Hall had four as Richland Northeast expanded its lead to double digits. Dreher got four points from Parr and King and Allen Elmore had three each. The Cavaliers held a 49-39 lead going into the fourth quarter.

Richland Northeast ran off a 13-4 run to begin the final quarter. Nowell, Brown, and Daniel Montgomery scored during the run. Dreher responded with an 11-2 run to end the game. Sheppard, Elmore, and James Beck scored dur- ing the run. However, it was not enough as Richland Northeast claimed the ten point win.

Dreher: Devario Sheppard 18, Jordan King 10, Allen Elmore 6, Louis Parr 6, Jordan Jennings 4, James Beck 4, Jabari Holas 2, and Trevon Dreher 2.
