Hammond blasts Barons

Photos by Perry McLeod Hammond’s Jordan Burch scored three touchdowns to lead the Skyhawks to a 37-0 win over the visiting Wilson Hall Barons in the first round of the SCISA 3A playoffs Friday, November 2.

Hammond’s second possession began at the Wilson Hall 41-yard line. Jackson Muschamp threw a pass to Cleo Canty who got the ball to the 19-yard line. On the next play, Muschamp tossed a short pass to Burch who scampered into the end zone for a touchdown. Lake Barrett added the extra point, and the Skyhawks led 7-0.

It remained a one possession game until the second quarter. Hammond got the ball at its own 30. Burch got two carries for 70 yards on the drive, including a gallop of 65 yards for the score. Barrett tacked on the extra point to extend the lead to 14-0.

Hammond put together one more scoring drive before halftime. Beginning from their own 46-yard line, the Skyhawks went to the ground again. Burch carried the ball the first three plays of the drive, totalling 33 yards. An 11-yard pass from Muschamp to Hal Crosswell got the ball to the Wilson Hall 10. The drive ended with a 2-yard run by Burch as the lead grew to 21-0 at halftime.

Hammond received the ball to start the second half and immediately went to work. From their own 36-yard line, the Skyhawks started the drive with a 6-yard run by Canty. It was followed up with a 58-yard pitch and catch from Muschamp to Andre Wilson for a touchdown, pushing the lead to 27-0.

The Skyhawks scored on their next possession as well as Hal Crosswell barrelled in from four yards out extending the lead to 34-0.

Barrett added a 36- yard field goal in the fourth quarter to set the final score at 37-0.

Hammond improves to 11-0 and advances to the semifinal round of the playoffs where the Skyhawks will host the Cardinal Newman Cardinals Friday, November 9.
