Richland County Council officially will introduce its new interim county administrator to residents when it meets November 13, but Edward Gomeau wasted no time getting to work since starting the job this week.

Gomeau has an extensive career in financial management and local government administration, having worked as a town manager and finance director in several northeast states during his more than 40-year career in public service. Prior to his appointment in Richland County, Gomeau was a financial consultant for a school district in Vergennes, Vt.

Gomeau arrived Monday and quickly immersed himself in getting acquainted with Richland County employees and operations. He is meeting with various staff members, reading volumes of material, and touring the area.

Gomeau holds a MBA in financial management from Suffolk University in Boston and a M.S. in operations research from New York University Tandon School of Engineering. He has won several awards for his public service and has experience in housing, disaster recovery, labor negotiations, and instruction. He has managed organizations of varying sizes, including the Town of Greenwich, Conn., with an employee roll of 2,200–similar to Richland County.

Council will meet 6 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 13 in Council Chambers, 2020 Hampton Street.
