Organist in recital at Shandon Methodist

Nicholas Stigall Nicholas Stigall The Greater Columbia Chapter of the American Guild of Organists will present young organist Nicholas Stigall in recital Friday, November 16, 7 p.m., at Shandon United Methodist Church, 3407 Devine Street.

In March 2018, Nicholas Stigall, a 17-year old organist from Tennessee, won first prize in the Young Organist Competition sponsored by the Greater Columbia Chapter of the American Guild of Organists. He also garnered the Best Bach Performance Award and the Hymn Playing Award.

Stigall is returning to Columbia to present this full-length solo recital of organ music, including works by Bach, Sweelinck, Mendelssohn, Decker, and Vierne. The program is free and open to the public. A reception will follow in Wesley Hall.

Stigall studies piano with Dr. David Brunell and organ with Dr. Edie Johnson. He was winner of a scholarship through the Brock Organ Education Fund in 2017 and 2018 and he was a winner in the North Carolina School of the Arts Organ Competition in 2018.

Stigall participated in the American Guild of Organists Pipe Organ Encounter (Advanced) in Alabama in 2017 and the Summer Organ Academy at Indiana University.

He is very active in the music program at his church and plans a career in church music and organ performance.
