Cardinals fly by Hammond

Set 1 began with Kate Flowers serving six straight points for Cardinal Newman, but Amelia Gandhi came back with four straight of her own for Hammond. From that point, however, the Cardinals took over, as Anna Fuller served six of her own for the Cardinals, putting her team up 12-4. The Skyhawks could not recover, and the Cardinals pulled away to win the set 25-15.

Set 2 saw more of the same, as Fuller started with three straight points. After Molly Mazoué finished serving, Cardinal Newman was up 11-4. Hammond came back with four straight points from Summer Wrenn to pull to within 11-8 and stayed within four points until a side out gave Megan Mazoué serve at 18- 13. She served out the set with seven straight points, including four of her aces, to give Cardinal Newman the 25-13 victory in Set 2.

Photo by Perry McLeod Hammond got an early 7-3 lead in Set 3 behind the serving of Cleo Ogburu, but Megan Mazoué pulled Cardinal Newman even with her serving, and after a side out, Molly Mazoué served five straight points to pull the Cardinals ahead 14-8. Kathleen Williams took over from there, serving nine consecutive points en route to a 25-10 victory for the Cardinals.

Molly Mazoué and Alexa Johnson led the Cardinals with five kills, and Logan Watson came through with 14 assists for Cardinal Newman. Ogburu led the Skyhawks with six kills.
