Science and Mathematics Governor’s School welcomes ten Richland County students

Ten students from Richland County have accepted invitations to attend the South Carolina Governor’s School for Science & Mathematics ( GSSM) in Hartsville, South Carolina. They join 136 students from 90 high schools and 31 counties across South Carolina to form the Class of 2020. GSSM’s student body of 286 juniors and seniors moved onto campus in mid- August and began classes on August 20.

The beginning of the 2018-2019 school year kicks off a year-long celebration of GSSM’s 30th anniversary of its founding. “We are honored to continue serving some of the best and brightest students in South Carolina,” reflected Dr. Hector Flores, President of GSSM.

Abby Benson, child of Susan Benson, and Sydney Joseph, child of Harrison Joseph III and Cynthia Duncan Joseph, were accepted into GSSM from A. C. Flora High School.

Shane Owens, child of Beverly Roberson- Owens, and Nyla Parker, child of Mr. and Mrs. Damion Parker, were accepted into GSSM from Blythewood High School.

Aimee Ahuja, child of Mr. and Mrs. Divya Ahuja, was accepted into GSSM from Chapin High School.

Rajath Sivankoi l , child of Balachander Sivankoil and Rajashree Rao, and Daniel Tedeschi, child of Dr. and Mrs. David Tedeschi, were accepted into GSSM from Dreher High School.

Gavin Taylor, child of Mr. Chadwick Taylor and Sandra Sailer Taylor, was accepted into GSSM from Ridgeview High School.

Elijah Brown, child of Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Brown, and Car son J . Harrell, child of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Harrell, were accepted into GSSM from Westwood High School.

Acceptance into GSSM’s rigorous residential program is through a selective process that identifies the state's most capable high school scholars. It reflects high academic and personal achievement and is a positive reflection on their school and community.
