Miss Roach and Mr. McMaster exchange wedding vows August 4


Mrs. Henry Dargan McMaster Jr. Mrs. Henry Dargan McMaster Jr. Virginia Boykin Roach and Henry Dargan McMaster Jr., both of Columbia, were married on August 4 at First Presbyterian Church in Columbia, South Carolina. Dr. Derek William Henry Thomas officiated the 6 o’clock ceremony.

The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Michael Roach Jr. of Columbia. She is the granddaughter of the late Dr. and Mrs. Daniel Michael Roach, Mrs. Edward Louis Smith Jr., and the late Mr. Smith, and Mr. and Mrs. Franklin Eugene Taylor. She is a graduate of Hammond School and The University of the South, Sewanee, Tennessee, with a degree in economics. She is employed as a financial advisor at Morgan Stanley in Columbia.

The groom is the son of Governor and Mrs. Henry Dargan McMaster of Columbia. He is the grandson of the late Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Wales McAbee and the late Mr. and Mrs. John Gregg McMaster Jr. He is also a graduate of Hammond School where the bride and groom met in the first grade. He received both a degree in history and a juris doctor degree from The University of South Carolina. He is employed as an assistant solicitor in the 6th Judicial Circuit Solicitor’s Office.

The bride was escorted by her father and given in marriage by her parents. Maid of honor was the bride’s sister, Catherine Lawrence Roach of New Orleans, Louisiana. Bridesmaids were the bride’s sister-in-law, Mary Rogers McMaster, of New York, New York; Caroline Reeves Cotter of Charleston, South Carolina; Mary Katherine Geismar of Nashville, Tennessee; Brittany Holland McCall and Katherine Bakhaus Satterfield both of Atlanta, Georgia; Katherine Helms Sundby of Dallas, Texas; and Katherine Mallory Miller and Rachael Strasburger Wall, both of Columbia.

The groom’s father served as best man. Groomsmen were Tripp Derrick Barnes, John Russell Fowles, and Samuel Martin Herskovitz all of New York, New York; William Shelburne Glenn of Raleigh, North Carolina; Matthew Wyatt Orville of Charleston, South Carolina; Daniel Kurt Pickhardt of Washington, D.C.; and Daniel Dawson Buckner and Benjamin Patrick Dudek, both of Columbia.

Ushers were Derrick Alan Grantz of Columbia; James Mills Lott of Charlotte, North Carolina; and Kyle Easterby Monahan of New York, New York.

Guests were greeted by Alex Creason McElroy of Charleston, South Carolina and Laura Dana Theus of Columbia.

Elizabeth Laffitte Rain and Anne Wharton Rain, cousins of the groom, served as flower girls. William Joseph Keenan V, cousin of the bride, served as ring bearer.

A reception at Forest Lake Club followed the ceremony.

After a honeymoon trip to St. Lucia, the couple will reside in Columbia.
