Ananda is an ancient sanskrit word meaning joyful or bliss. That is exactly the word Brenda Tobin was searching for when choosing a name for her goat yoga business. Goats are ananda. They make you laugh, smile, and forget about your troubles for a while.

The goats: Zen, Buddha, Ganesh, Dharma, Rumi, and Picasso are bottled– raised and are part of the Tobin family, making them super friendly and wanting to be with people. They love to interact with the students at Barclay School.

The Barclay School, formerly located near Columbia College, has moved to 1364 Cook Road, Ridgeway, S.C. It is a small, K-12 non-profit school in Ridgeway for creative students who learn differently.

At the school’s new location, the students and staff are building their own farm where they grow food year-round, create sanctuaries for wildlife, and get their hands in the dirt to learn about the world around them.

The Barclay School students and staff have worked hard and are so thankful for their Green Steps School certification.

Green Steps Schools is an environmental education and action initiative that recognizes schools in South Carolina that take annual sustainable steps toward becoming more environmentally responsible.

Ananda goats interact with the students at The Barclay School bringing them joyful bliss.

Class size is small for ananda goat yoga and learning is individualized, experiential, and hands-on. The students led by instructor Hannah Rose Williams learn together in multi-aged groupings, where the focus is on emotional and social growth, as well as academic needs.

Ananda goat yoga is for anyone and can be booked with a herd of three or more. The experience includes a one- hour yoga class with the goats and a half hour mingle with the goats where participants can continue to laugh, take pictures, and enjoy refreshments.

Brenda Tobin is a homeopathic practitioner, veterinary homeopath and canine nutritionist at Wellness Matters. www.wellnessmattersonline.com. The goats live with Brenda and her son, Jack, on their small hobby farm in Winnsboro.
