Cardinals fly past Bengals

Photo by Perry McLeod The Cardinal Newman Cardinals scored two goals in the first half and two in the second to earn a 4-1 win over the Blythewood Bengals and advance to the semifinals of the Nike Palmetto Cup Wednesday, April 3.

“ We knew it was going to be highly contested,” Cardinal Newman head coach Will Eudy said. “We knew if we could wait it out and get a couple of goals, we felt two goals would win the game for us.”

Cardinal Newman struck first in the 14th minute when Matthew Binette found Palmer Dayhuff who delivered a head- er to the back of the net for a 1-nil lead.

Blythewood scored the equalizer in the 29th minute when Paddy Orr converted a free kick for a 1-1 score.

A minute before halftime, the Cardinals got back on top with a goal from Will Chontos.

Chontos delivered his second goal in the 51st minute to give Cardinal Newman some room at 3- 1.
