Spring Valley High School students took home top honors at the State Championship of Academics, winning the Division One Championship for high schoolers.

The Spring Valley High team beat out teams from 15 schools from across the state. The competition was held on Thursday, March 22 at Francis Marion University. Students answered timed questions in Jeopardy style matches in categories including science, math, government, art, literature and history.

Team members for the competition were Jasdeep Singh, Isak Jatoi, Jareer Imran, Fatima Jatoi and Atifah Jatoi.

“ The Quiz Team meets every Friday during lunch to practice, which consists of reading and answering questions,” said Quiz Team Coach and SVHS Teacher Michelle Wyatt.

“There are approximately 30 members of the club. Quiz team members above all have fun and enjoy competing; although, winning is an added bonus!”

Duke Energy, Francis Marion University and the Pee Dee Education Center sponsored the tournament.
