Flora’s senior all-star guard Jordan Strange struck for 32 points, and junior McKinley Brooks- Sumpter pitched in 13 points, helping the Falcons defeat the Dreher Blue Devils 60-48 in a Region V- 4A girls’ basketball game February 2 Friday night at “The Nest” on the Flora campus.

Both teams are done with their regular seasons and now await their state playoff matchups, due out this weekend. Flora moves to 13-8 overall and 5-3 in the region and should get the No. 3 seed from the region. Dreher finishes the regular season 8-13 overall and 3-5 in the region and is slotted for the No. 4 seed from the region.

TT Jones led the Devils with 23 points, and Haliyah Sumter followed with 17. Sumter’s eight points in the first quarter kept the Devils in the fight early with a 13-10 lead. But Strange and Brooks- Sumpter started to sink the birds’ claws in the second quarter as the Falcons moved ahead in the first few minutes.

Jones came to life for the Devils in the second half, getting 10 of Dreher’s 14 points in the third period and adding another nine in the fourth quarter. But Strange was the Falcons’ answer in the second half, scoring from long and short range and hitting 6-for-10 from the free throw line in the final quarter to ensure the victory.

“It is a rivalry game and senior night,” Flora head coach Coral Johnson said, “so you never know what will happen. I just kept telling them you have to go to the end, and you can’t quit. We did and came out on top. We knew we had to stop Haliyah and limit her touches. She is a great player.”
