Knights blow by Ben Lippen

Photo by Perry McLeod Ben Lippen’s Ryan McCray and Javian Bellamy combined for 52 of the Falcons’ 74 points against West Florence at the Bojangles’ Bash held at Ridge View High School December 9, but it was not enough. The Knights racked up 90 en route to the 90-74 victory.

Sabien Nero led the way for West Florence with 22 points. Jarrod Woodland added 17, Derrion Lloyd finished with 15, and Marquise Pemberton had 12. The Knights shot 12-of-26 from behind the arc; Woodland had five of those.

McCray scored a game-high 29 points for the Falcons. He also had five rebounds, two assists, and four steals. Bellamy finished with 23 points, five rebounds, two assists, and four steals. Will Cureton added 11 points to go with seven rebounds, and Aaron Oelhafen got five points. Alden Gibbs, Riley Reasons, and Graham Jones had two points each.

The teams battled to a 21-21 tie in the first period. Lloyd and Woodland both had six for West Florence. McCray pumped in 10 for Ben Lippen, and Cureton added six.

The Falcons took a brief 23-21 lead to start the second, but the Knights outscored Ben Lippen 18-8 the next 7:24 to take a 49-31 lead into the break. Woodland led the Knights hitting three 3-pointers and a jumper. McCray had four more for Ben Lippen while Cureton and Bellamy added three each.

The West Florence lead grew to as much as 25 in the third, and the Knights took a 74-48 advantage into the final eight minutes. Pemberton paced West Florence with ten points, and Nero added nine. McCray got nine more for Ben Lippen.

The Knights led 85-54 after 3-pointer from Matt Lowery with 3:39 to play, but Ben Lippen kept fighting with 11 from Bellamy, six from McCray, and five from Oelhafen.
