Lady Cavs handle Hammond

Photo by Perry McCleodthe 11 players listed on the Richland Northeast roster got into the scoring column as the Lady Cavaliers downed the visiting Hammond Lady Skyhawks 70-38 in girls’ basketball action Wednesday, December 6.

Daisha Jackson led the way for Richland Northeast with a game-high 16 points. Cortazia Windley added 12, and Sharita Godfrey finished with 10. The other points for the Cavaliers came from Taylor Britt with seven, Maya Taylor with six, Kayla Brown and Aiko Lane with five each, Armani Wright with four, Danielle Eaddy with three, and Rosalina Macon with two. 

Ahlea Myers was the only Skyhawk in double figures finishing with 15. Tyra Myers added nine, and Claire Lewis had seven. Anna Felder got three, and Ashli Neal and Mikayla Turner finished with two each.

The Lady Cavaliers jumped out to a 14-10 first quarter lead getting four each from Jackson and Wright to go with baskets from Brown, Windley, and Godfrey. Hammond stayed close with five from

Richland Northeast outscored the Skyhawks 21-7 in the second quarter and never looked back taking a 35-17 advantage into the break. Godfrey and Taylor led the way with six each, Windley added five, and Jackson got four. Hammond got four from Tyra Myers and three from Ahlea Myers.

The Cavaliers’ defense tightened the screws even more in the third allowing just six Skyhawk points, two each from Neal, Tyra Myers, and Ahlea Myers. Meanwhile the Cavalier offense kept rolling with 19 points. Lane and Britt got five each, Jackson added another four, Windley drained a 3-pointer, and Godfrey got a bucket.

The teams played even in the fourth. Jackson scored four more to go with 3-pointers from Brown and Eaddy and baskets from Windley, Macon, and Britt. The Skyhawks got five each from Ahlea Myers and Lewis. Anna Felder chipped in three, and Mikayla Turner had two.
