Cardinal Newman students earn special awards at Youth in Government Conference

Declan Carrol Declan Carrol Cardinal Newman School’s Model Legislature Delegation earned special awards at this year’s Youth in Government conference held November 15–18 at the South Carolina State House.

Bella Parks and Hannah Brubaker were recognized with an Outstanding Bill Award, which was given to a select few bills that demonstrated excellence in research. Their bill was titled, “An Acto to Mandate Self Defense Curriculum in Physical Education Courts.”

Declan Carrol was nominated as a ninth alternate for the Conference on National Affairs (CONA), which is a national Youth in Government (YIG) conference. About 20 students from the 1,600 who participate in South Carolina Youth in Government Conference attend this conference.

The delegation as a whole was recognized as a Premier Delegation for the second time for meeting the pre-conference requirements and student conduct policies.
