With inspiration from fairytales and children’s books and movies, Dreher High School’s original dance production The Untold Story will delight and entertain children of all ages. The curtain rises on this exciting production December 6–8 at 7 p.m. in the school’s auditorium.

Created and choreographed by Dreher dance director Kathleen Lee, this fractured fairytale follows the journey of two sisters, Genevieve and Gwendolyn. The girls are kidnapped into a fairytale realm where they must battle villains such as Ursula and her evil eels, Maleficent and her giant dragon, Captain Hook and his band of pirates, the Ice Queen and her icicles, Grenhilda and her poison apples, as well as the Gingerbread Hag and her gingerbread men.

For those faint of heart, never fear, this dance production is not all toil and sorrow. The young heroines find help from their Fairy Godmother, magical rainbow fish, fairies and a tribe of friendly trolls.

The Untold Story features the talents of Dreher dance students, as well as those from nine other Richland One schools (A.C. Moore Elementary, Brennen Elementary, Brockman Elementary, Horrell Hill Elementary, Meadowfield Elementary, Rosewood Elementary, Satchel Ford Elementary, Crayton Middle, and Hand Middle). Audiences can expect to see jazz, hip hop, ballet, contemporary, and Afro-modern dance movements.

“This fall production has become quite a community tradition,” said Lee. “I love working with the elementary and middle school students. Showcasing all levels of experience on one stage gives parents an opportunity to see not only what their children are truly capable of, but the value of the arts. Most importantly the kids inspire each other.

My high school students see the joy and excitement of the younger dancers and the younger students see what they can aspire to through hard work, perseverance and passion.”

Tickets are $5 and will be on sale the week of the show at Dreher’s main office (3319 Millwood Avenue) from 8 a.m.–3:15 p.m. and the night of each show from 6–7 p.m.

Seating is first come, first served.
