Devaney & Dutch Fork girls run away with Run Hard titles

Dutch Fork’s Lauren Devaney took the overall top spot in a rain-soaked Run Hard Invitational October 7. Devaney finished in a time of 19:19.16 beating out South Aiken’s Olivia Esselman (19:38.23) and Lexington’s Ava Grace Fowler (19:51.93).

This was Devaney’s third victory in a major meet this year. Her teammates Mackenzie Meier (20:16.22), Brianna Hartley (20:42.85), and Miranda Kirkley (21:26.49) finished fourth, fifth, and ninth, respectively, helping give the Lady Silver Foxes their fourth major meet team championship this season. Dutch Fork scored 31 points beating second place Lexington by 11 and third place Stratford by 44.

On the girls’ side, 81 runners and five teams placed.

On the boys’ side with 116 runners who placed, South Aiken’s Zakiah Bassett came in first in a time of 16:47.73. He was followed by Lexington’s Jeffrey Keene (16:49.87), Thomas Sutcliffe ( 17: 05.60), Heat McDonald ( 17: 06.77), Zander Jeffcoat (17:07.83), and William Johnson (17:30.91), who finished second through sixth, respectively. Trey Burns ( 17: 49.77) and Hunter Whetstone (17:52.59) also finished in the Top 10 for the Lexington Wildcats.

Needless to say, the Wildcats ran away with the team title with 20 points. Stratford was second with 67, and the Dutch Fork Silver Foxes were third with 83 points. Ammar Dossaji led the Silver Foxes, finishing eighth in a time of 17:44.64.

Heathwood Hall’s Hugh Wilcox was 17th in a time of 18: 19.72. The Highlanders finished last out of the six teams that placed.
