Melrose Heights Neighborhood Association approves traffic control proposal

By Josh Cruse

A first draft of the Melrose traffic control plan was approved at the Melrose Heights Neighborhood Assocation’s monthly meeting Monday, October 9.

The plan, which was constructed after multiple requests for traffic calming measures in the Melrose community, was presented at the meeting by neighborhood official Anna Redwine.

In the plan, there was a proposal for speed humps between 1508 and 1509 Maple Street, between 1217 and 1220 Maple Street, between 1205 and 1209 Hagood Street, between 1511 and 1512 Hagood Street, between 1215 and 1216 Shirley Street, between 1127 and 1214 Daly Street, between 1115 and 1121 Daly Street, and between 1201 and 1206 Daly Street.

Residents on Gladden Street have asked for either a stop sign, more police presence, or a one-way traffic sign; however, they do not want a speed hump.

There is also a request for a three-way stop at the corner of Kline and Daly Streets.

A motion was made to approve the preliminary list; that motion was approved.

There is still time for Melrose residents who wish to have their streets on this list to submit their requests. The deadline for requests is Monday, October 23.

Redwine is taking requests at annaredwine@gmail.com.
