Cavaliers beat B-C in three tough games

Logan McMullin led the visiting Cavaliers with 12 kills, five blocks, and an ace in Richland Northeast’s 3-0 (25-22, 28-26, 25-17) win over the Brookland- Cayce Bearcats August 31.

McMullin actually sat out the first game, but Bonnie Thompson contributed a couple of service aces and a kill, and Andrena Wise had a kill and a block to pace the Cavaliers who jumped out to a 7-3 lead.

The Bearcats fought back with aces from Claire Fingerlin and Savannah Ducote to go with kills from Zae Jackson and Diamond Moore before Fingerlin’s kill tied it at 14-14.

Brookland- Cayce grabbed an 18-17 lead with an RNE error, but the Cavaliers got two straight aces from Thompson to regain control, and Jordan Gore’s block gave the visitors the 25-22 win.

The Bearcats jumped out to a 9-5 lead in the second game getting a couple of aces from Zae Jackson to go with a kill from Fingerlin and a touch shot from Madigan Morrison. Brookland Cayce led 12-7 after Moore’s block and 16-11 after another ace from Zae Jackson, but RNE stormed back with a block from Este- fania Fuentes and two kills and a block from McMullin to tie Game 2 at 17-17.

Neither team could pull away as B-C got a kill and a touch shot from Ducote, and the Cavaliers answered with a winner from Erin Gainey, a block from Gore, and a kill from McMullin to build a 24-22 advantage. A couple of errors tied it at 26-26, and then McMullin put the game away with two straight kills.

The Cavaliers raced to a 12-3 lead in the third game led by McMullin’s two blocks and three kills. Jada Goodwin added an ace, and Wise got a kill. The Bearcats refused to go away quietly getting a kill from Ducote and aces from Taylor Jackson and Morrison to close the gap to 15-12, but that was as close as they would get.

Wise finished with four kills and a block for RNE. Gainey added two aces, and Gore had a couple of blocks and a kill. Thompson had two aces and a kill. Fuentes added multiple assists.

Ducote paced the Bearcats with an ace, four assists, five digs, and four kills. Moore added two kills and three blocks. Taylor Jackson had three aces, eight assists, and a kill. Fingerlin finished with two aces, an assist, a dig, and a kill. Zae Jackson had three aces and two kills.
