Gills Creek featured in art exhibit at city hall

Contributed by Gills Creek Watershed Association

Gills Creek Elegies, an exhibition of photographs by Gunars Strazdins, will be on display from July 6 through September 30, 2017, at the Gallery at City Hall. Taken over 25 years ago, the images continue to resonate as a visual eulogy for Gills Creek in the aftermath of the October 2015 flood.

Strazdins has donated the entire collection of 20 framed artists’ proofs to the Gills Creek Watershed Association to further its mission to protect and restore this landscape. The photographs are available for purchase via an online auction through September 30.

The Gallery at City Hall, at the Corner of Main and Laurel Streets, is open Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m.–5 p.m., and First Thursdays from 6–8 p.m. A reception open to the public will be held Thursday, September 7. Strazdins, a retired professor in USC School of Visual Art and Design, will speak at 7 p.m. The exhibition space is a project of One Columbia for Arts & History.
