Westwood banishes Bears

Adam Douglas scored 12 points, and Cameron Wormack and Russell Jones added 11 each to lead the Westwood Redhawks to a 53-35 victory over the visiting Belton-Honea Path Bears in the first round of the boys’ Class 4A basketball playoffs Wednesday, February 15.
Terrance Barnes added eight points, Ellis Hawkins had four, Jalen Watson got three, and Jaylon Peachers and Dante Brown finished with two each to complete the scoring for Westwood.
Tiavion Mack led the Bears with 12 points, and Xavier Nance added seven.
Wormack led the Redhawks with six first quarter points, but Mack countered with six for the Bears, and the score stood 10-10 after one quarter of play.
Westwood outscored Belton-Honea Path by ten points in the second led by Douglas’s  six points. Barnes chipped in five, and Jones, Wormack, and Hawkins all had baskets. No Bear had more than two points, and Westwood led 27-17 at the break.
The teams played even in the third as Douglas paced the Redhawks with five , and  Cadavious Gary had four for BHP. Westwood took a  36-24 lead into the final eight minutes.
Jones helped put the Bears away with seven in the fourth. Mack countered with six for the Bears, but the Redhawks comfortably moved on to earn a road game against Aiken in the second round on February 18.
