Ridge View’s Kaiden Rice scored a game-high 17 points to lead the Blazers to a 63-49 victory over the visiting Daniel Lions in the first round of the Class 4A playoffs Wednesday, February 15.
Tre High added 12 points, and Walyn Napper had 10 for Ridge View. Other scorers included Darien Johnson with seven, Trakell Fleming with five, Josiah Coatie and D’Markis Neal-Taylor with three each, and Marion McCaskill, Latheron Rogers-Anderson, and Malcolm Wilson with two each.
Deante Bennett led the Lions with 15 points, and Damarcus Gay added 13.
The Blazers grabbed an 11-9 lead after one quarter of play. Fleming paced Ridge View with five points, and Napper got four. Daniel countered with a 3-pointer from William Bradley, and baskets from Jaylin Gibbs, Peter Cote, and Gay.
The Ridge View defense held the Lions to seven second quarter points and built a 23-16 halftime lead with five more points from Napper, a 3-pointer from Coatie, and field goals from Johnson and Rice.
The offensive pace picked up a bit in the second half. High got the Blazers going with ten of his 12 in the third quarter. Johnson and Rice added four each, and Wilson got a bucket. Bennett led Daniel with seven points, and Gay had four, but Ridge View’s lead grew to 43-31 to start the final eight minutes.
Rice took over from there getting nine of his 17 in the fourth to put the game away for the Blazers and send them into the second round for a home game against North Augusta Saturday, February 18.
