Maestro Topolov Maestro Topolov The Palmetto Opera opens its fourth season with a performance of Pavarotti’s best-loved arias, three world-class tenors—Simon Kyung Lee, Fabian Robles, Jorge Antonio Pita—plus sensational soprano Olga Orlovskaya and a Meet-the- Cast party afterwards.

In 2012, Orlovskaya performed the lead role in Palmetto Opera’s La Traviata production to rave reviews. An Evening with Pavarotti will be January 30, 2014, at Harbison Theatre’s state-ofthe arts performance hall in Irmo. It begins at 7 p.m., and tickets are on sale at the Harbison Theatre box office and online.

Teatro Lirico d’Europa was established in 1988 by Giorgio Lalov, a young Bulgarian opera singer who debuted at La Scala at age 25. Lalov quickly established Teatro as highly competent in delivering traditional, fullscale productions featuring top professional opera singers and orchestra.

Fabian Robles Fabian Robles Palmetto Opera Chair Kathy Newman says Palmetto Opera’s vision of making grand opera an integral part of our capital’s cultural scene is becoming a reality. “This season we graduate to two performances, another milestone in establishing a full opera season Without a doubt our continuing growth is the direct result of our dedicated volunteer board and our enthusiastic supporters,” she said.

Another Palmetto Opera success is its Thursday Opera series, designed to introduce novices to opera as well as entertain aficionados. At least once a month, professional opera singers from the Midlands perform arias from wellknown operas and musical theater classics during the dinner hours at local restaurants and other venues. They usually sell out.
