Cards squeak by A.C. Flora

Photo by Jim Marczesky The visiting Cardinal Newman Lady Cardinals took a 4-3 lead on a hardfought goal by Pascale Rocca in the 76th minute and held on to beat the A.C. Flora Lady Falcons at Bolden Stadium Thursday, March 16.

A.C. Flora struck first with a well- placed shot from Stella Huffman in the eighth minute. Cardinal Newman answered with a blast from Sophie Cobb in the 11th minute.

The Lady Cardinals got a little help when a ball bounced around in the Falcon box, hit an A. C. Flora player, and richochetted into the goal in the 16th minute. Cardinal Newman took that 2-1 lead into the half.

Ashley Brown scored in the 48th minute on an assist from Rocca to give the Cardinals a 3-1 lead, but A.C. Flora responded. Mary Sarah Komar got a goal just into the 51st minute, and Marie Foster was able to get a header past CN keeper Molly Rainwater in the 60th minute. But Rocca powered through 16 minutes later for the victory.

A.C Flora beat Midland Valley 13-0, March 16 and Airport 2-1, March 20 (See story in Sports). Cardinal Newman downed Dreher 6-0, March 17, then beat Augusta Christian 15- 0, March 19, and Heathwood Hall 6-0, March 20 (See story in Sports).
