Blue Devils down Airport
The Dreher Blue Devils prevailed in a nip and tuck battle with the Airport Eagles winning 41- 35 Tuesday, January 31.
Chris Jones led Dreher with 11 points, and John Myers added 10. Airport was led by Manny Polston with nine points.
Scoring was hard to come by for the two squads in the first half. Dreher scored the first three points with buckets from Jones and Kendall Taylor. Airport responded with buckets from Quan Bovain and Raymond Pinkston to take the lead.
Dreher recaptured its lead midway through the second quarter. Backto back 3-pointers from John Myers gave the Blue Devils a 10-7 lead.
The lead was two at the half when Dreher’s offense woke up. Points from Jones, Myers, and Tevin Mack grew the Blue Devil lead to eight.
Buckets from Jones and Xavier Hampton increased the lead to double digits, but Airport did not go away. Pinkston, Polston, and Jay Sightler got baskets to cut the deficit to 32-27.
But the Eagles could manage just two points over the three minute stretch that followed. Meanwhile, the Blue Devils were able to pull away. Buckets from Hampton and Myers pushed the lead back to double digits.
The Eagles made one last push but ran out of time as Dreher pulled out the region win.
