National president to attend conference of S.C. Society Colonial Dames XVII Century
Jan Lockard, president of National Society Colonial Dames XVII Century President General Jan Lockard, National Society Colonial Dames XVII Century, will be the special honored guest of the South Carolina Society for their 57th annual state conference in Columbia on February 17th and 18th. The conference is being held at the Clarion Hotel Downtown and will be attended by approximately 150 South Carolina Dames from 20 chapters across the state.
The South Carolina Society was founded in 1955 in St. Matthews, SC., by Mrs. Lillian Murphy Cain. The current (2011- 2013) S.C. president is Mrs. James T. Gallahorn III of Mt. Pleasant, S.C., and Mrs. Nevon F. Jeffcoat of Columbia is the president of the Conference Hostess Chapter.
The National Society Colonial Dames XVII Century is a ladies hereditary organization founded in 1915 and dedicated to historic preservation, colonial records research, and genealogy. It provides numerous scholarships to U.S. colleges and universities. The historic national headquarters in Washington, D.C., and houses one of our nation’s finest collections of heraldry and coats of arms.
Application for membership in the society is open to young women aged 18 years and older who have a documented ancestor who provided service to our country prior to 1701.
