Brian Denny suffered a spinal cord injury March 15, 2010, while working at Stock Building Supply in Columbia. The C3/C4 injury left him paralyzed from the shoulders down.

The Home Builders Association of Greater Columbia (HBA) Charitable Foundation was presented with an opportunity to help Brian, his wife Jessica, and his children Kendall, eight, and Cooper, six, by working with Stock Building Supply and coordinating other HBA members to build this family a totally accessible home.

Since March 2010, the members of the HBA have come together to build this home by donating time, materials, and expertise for free or well below cost. It has been known as Lagniappe ( pronounced LAN- yap) meaning “an extra or unexpected gift.” Their efforts have come to fruition, and the home is complete. The Denny Family was presented with the keys to the house in Northeast Columbia at a ribbon-cutting ceremony January 20.
