Students at River Springs Elementary participated in the first ever Columbia- area Boosterthon Fun Run event Wednesday, October 5.

Boosterthon is a nine-day fitness, character, and leadership program that aims to revolutionize the anti- bullying movement while helping local schools meet and exceed their financial goals in today’s tough economy.

River Springs students learned what it meant to be part of a team through Boosterthon’s new character theme, EPIC Adventure. Boosterthon team members spent days in the classroom teaching students about the character actions: Encourage, Play, Invite, and Celebrate. By learning these skills, students apply the new knowledge in the classroom, on the playground, and at home.

At the culmination of the program, students participate in the Fun Run event and run an average of 25 to 35 laps as Boosterthon team members reinforce the character traits learned through EPIC Adventure. As a highenergy event, the Boosterthon

Fun Run features themed laps and fastpaced music for a fun school-wide event.

Parents and teachers were invited to support and cheer on the students. Teachers marked off the laps on the back of the student’s T- shirt; every student received a free T-shirt for participating. Over all, the River Spring event was a success for the school.
