Meggie Vandiver Meggie Vandiver After a 2009 8–8 year, which doubled the number of victories in the 2008 season, the Spring Valley tennis team is loaded with experienced talent and ready to move deep into the playoffs.

“This team has the most depth I’ve ever worked with,” said head coach Holly Barber. “All but one of our starters are returning.”

Meggie Vandiver, Maiah Blackmon, and Brooke Summers will be the top singles seeds, according to Barber. There are only two seniors on the squad, so the future is bright for the tennis program.

“We are working a lot on techniques and still trying to figure out who to put at #2 singles,” Barber said. “The outcome of that match can make or break you, so we are looking hard at all the girls.”

As of August 23, the singles ladder was #1 Meggie Vandiver, #2 Maiah Blackmon, #3 Brooke Summers, #4 Becca Moore (Doubles), #5 Hayley Loughlin, #6 Courtney Noh, #7 Ahzia Wood, #8 Jaiah Dash, #9 Sarah Nellermoe, #10 Katie Holmes, #11 Jenny Roth, and #12 Shannon Hall.

“Camden will be tough as they are most years,” Barber said. “We are looking forward to these challenges.”

The Vikings also have playoff teams Blythewood, Richland Northeast, A.C. Flora, Irmo, and 2009 semifinalist Dutch Fork on the schedule.
