It’s all about the team for Airport senior
Denise Bonnette
In order for the 2010 Airport volleyball team to have success, senior Denise Bonnette is going to be a vital part of it.
Her tall stature along with her position on the front line as the middle hitter allows her to be a strong part of the Airport defense as she holds the team record for blocks. On offense, she holds the team record for kills. Bonnette says hearing that she is a vital part of this team makes her feel important. Because through it all, the team is her greatest inspiration.
For Bonnette, it all started in seventh grade when she tried out for volleyball because she thought it was cool since her friends were playing it as well. From that moment, she was hooked on volleyball. As she enters her senior season, her goal is clear—get the team to state.
Along with her many accomplishments, Bonnette has also experienced her share of disappoint- ments, the greatest of which she says is when her team isn’t talking on the court. Bonnette credits head coach Jessica Kerbs for instructing her not only when she is doing something wrong but on how to improve when she makes a mistake.
While volleyball isn’t a major priority in her long term goals, it is something that she is looking into when looking at colleges.
However, in 2010 her focus is on her team. Whether it is the atmosphere that volleyball creates or the friendships on the team that she enjoys most, the 2010 season is sure to be an eventful one for Bonnette.
