SCE&G must stop the weather monster!

Editor’s note: The following s is a letter to the Public Service Commission from C. Joseph

Roof.

Ladies and Gentlemen, I received notice today that SCE&G is implementing a so–called “Electric Weather Normalization” (“eWNA) which has for its alleged purpose to “ ... level the effects of abnormal weather on the customer and the company.” I am opposed to this program which is solely for the benefit of SCE&G and allows it to take my assets (i.e. charge me for energy not consumed) when usage is low and to do so without due process.

I pay for the energy I receive. SCE&G should only receive payment for energy it delivers. Who is to determine what is “abnormal” or “unusually high and low” temperatures? Can SCE&G be trusted to do this? Not by this writer. Isn’t it enough that this company:
1. Is guaranteed a profit?
2. Was allowed to pawn off its duty to provide public transportation?
3. Spends like a drunken sailor?
4. Passes its costs to consumers who have nowhere to turn; and
5. Answers to no one on issues of efficiency and effectiveness in the management
of its resources?
The eWNA is nothing more than yet another effort by SCE&G to balance its broken business model on the backs of energy consumers. I implore you to stop this eWNA monster before it is given full life. Every business must adjust to meet the impact of weather variances and other uncertainies upon its budget. SCE&G is looking for another free ride.
