Chabad’s “Jewish Learning Center” presents The amazing Shofar factory

Contributed by The Columbia JCC

Chabad of SC is preparing a special program called “The Shofar Factory” Sunday, August 29, 1–3 p.m. at the Columbia JCC, 306 Flora Drive.

Participants will see how a ram’s horn is cured, measured, sawed, drilled, and polished. The result will be a “Shofar,” used on Rosh Hashanah and at the end of Yom Kippur. When the Shofar is complete, participants will learn how to blow it and sound the traditional notes.

“We believe that the ‘hands–on’ and experiential approach is the best way to teach,” said Rabbi Levi Marrus, director of Chabad’s Jewish Learning Center. “With the High Holidays around the corner, now is the most appropriate time to educate children to ‘call out’ for G–d to bless us with a peaceful year of happiness and good health, as the Shofar is utilized to ‘call out.’”

The Shofar Factory will be open to the entire community.
