Glenforest School welcomes new visual arts instructor
Paula Bowers Glenforest School, a K–12 non–profit day school dedicated to educating students who learn differently, announces new faculty member, Paula Bowers. She is appointed visual arts instructor, responsible for coordinating, teaching and directing all visual art activities for students with learning differences at Glenforest School.
In her new position Bowers plans to lead a rich arts curriculum encompassing diverse arts practices and disciplines and a fresh assortment of new mediums and techniques. Her responsibilities include leading arts classes for Glenforest Elementary, Middle, and High School students.
Bowers, a Columbia native, and the mother of four children (two boys and two girls,) grew up in the Shandon area and completed her education locally, attending Rosewood Elementary School, Hand Middle School, and Dreher High School. She is a graduate of Columbia College where she earned a bachelor’s degree in art and education. Before Glenforest, Bowers worked at Eastminster Day School as Preschool Arts Instructor and then gained much experience working with children of all ages and “hands on teaching” while leading instructional classes and running ArtShack Gallery Café (also known as Columbia Odyssey Art Center or Artshack Studio,) a local art gallery and artistic center she founded in 2003.
In addition, Bowers works freelance as an illustrator and was invited to partner with local author Caroline Coleman Bennett to illustrate
her book Charley’s Columbia
Backyard that was named “City of Columbia’s Official Children’s Book,” and was used for the “Together We Can…Read” literacy initiative, a partnership between Richland One, the City of Columbia, Richland County, the Greater Chamber of Commerce, and the Partners in Education Foundation, promoting reading to students.
