Reeling in the big one ... sort of

Contributed by Mrs. Jamie Steen

It was a warm May afternoon at Packs Landing. My father– in–law, Jimmy, and my husband, Jamie, decided to go fishing.

They put the boat in at Pack’s, headed out, and found a good spot under some trees. Jimmy was in the front of the boat running the trolling motor. Jamie was fishing from the back and tearing up the brim. He had already caught about 20, and Jimmy had caught just three.

All of a sudden, Jimmy sees his rod going down. He picks it up and the line is running out. He gets so excited and screams, “OHHHH SON, I’ve got a big one!”

So Jamie jumps to the front of the boat to help. Jimmy’s heart is pumping 90 mph. Then Jamie realizes the big one Jimmy has caught is actually the trolling motor. Somehow he had wrapped his line around the trolling motor, while it was still operating.
