Wesley Donehue named rising star Senate Republicans have something to celebrate this year, as one of their own was named a “rising star” by Campaigns & Elections’ magazine, Politics. But it wasn’t a fellow senator, it’s the caucus’ political director, Wesley Donehue. Donehue, a South Carolina graduate from Goose Creek, these days works and lives in Columbia. He also runs a consulting firm with a new media emphasis called, “Donehue Direct” with his wife, Elizabeth.

Customers cannot pay for nuclear reactor

A new ruling by the S.C. Supreme Court mandates that South Carolina Electric & Gas cannot require its customers to pay for a $438 million contingency fund. The purpose behind the fund was to pay for new nuclear reactors. Currently, SCE&G is in the process of building two nuclear reactors in Fairfield County to the tune of $10 billion. However, none of the contingency is already in customer bills, so there will be no decrease in rates. The reactors are planned to come online in 2016 and 2019.

Two confirmed as U.S. district judges

Two Columbia attorneys were confirmed as U.S. district judges by the U.S. Senate and should be appointed by President Barack Obama this week. The two were Richard Gergel, husband of Columbia City Councilwoman Belinda Gergel, and S.C. Circuit Judge Michelle Childs.
