Fifth Annual School Supply Bash benefit children with cancer
Local children facing cancer and their siblings will enjoy the 5th Annual School Supply Bash sponsored by Children’s Chance, where they will receive free school supplies from the charity. Children’s Chance, a non– profit organization dedicated to helping children fighting cancer in South Carolina and their families, is proud to have teamed up with community members, volunteers through Disney’s Give a Day Get a Day Program, and others to have an overwhelming amount of supplies donated to these brave children fighting cancer and their siblings.
Children’s Chance will hold events throughout the state to ensure that children have easy access to get the supplies they need to return to school. The first School Supply Bash will be held on Thursday, July 29 from 11:30 a.m.–2 p.m. at Palmetto Health Richland’s Children’s Hospital followed by a Charleston area event on Wednesday, August 4 at MUSC from 10 a.m–12 p.m. in Rutledge Tower on the 4th floor. The next event will be in Rock Hill at Piedmont Medical Center in the auditorium Wednesday, August 5 from 1:30–4 p.m. The final school supply event will be held Saturday, August 7 in Greenville at the Bi–Lo Charities Children’s Hospital from 12–2 p.m. in the children’s cancer center.
Samantha Higgins, public relations/development director of Children’s Chance said, “We are so excited to be able to offer free school supplies to the special children throughout the palmetto state who are fighting cancer and their siblings. We appreciate the support of our volunteers, sponsors, and the community for making this event possible and we know that it will make a big impact to help families send their kids back to school with the supplies they need during such a difficult time”.
Established in 1996, Children’s Chance is the only non–profit organization that assists families facing pediatric cancer with non–medical financial, psychological, and emotional needs. Through support from the community, individuals, and businesses, Children’s Chance continues to fund programs such as Discretionary Funds to help families pay non–medical bills such as rent/mortgage, car payments, and telephone bills; Angel Funds, which provides families assistance with out of pocket expenses such as gas and food cards; counseling services to help these families through an emotionally challenging experience, and fun events for the families such as The School Supply Bash and The Evening with the Gamecocks.
