Historic Columbia Foundation Seeking Contestants for the Jubillee: Festivall of Heritage Yam Cook–Off

Deadline for entries, Friday, August 13

Sweet potatoes and yams? What’s the difference? Contestants entering the Jubilee: Festival of Heritage Yam Cook–Off will probably be able to distinguish between the two. Historic Columbia Foundation is seeking contestants for the cook–off that will be held on Friday, August 27 from 6 p.m.–8 p.m. at the Big Apple, 1000 Hampton Street.

In celebration of the 32nd annual Jubilee: Festival of Heritage, Historic Columbia Foundation is promoting these two unrelated vegetables—yams and sweet potatoes, which are sometimes used interchangeably in the south. Contestants are asked to make a dish only using Glory Food yams or sweet potato products as the main ingredient. Glory Foods is sponsoring the contest and providing food demonstrations during the Jubilee Festival the following day. Judges will select winners based on taste, creativity, texture, and presentation. They will select one winner from three categories including Overall, Best Presentation, and Healthiest Dish.

Entry deadline is Friday, August 13. Winners will receive prizes provided by Glory Foods and Historic Columbia Foundation and announced during the Jubilee: Festival of Heritage on Saturday, August 28. The festival begins at 11 a.m. For more information and a contest entry form, visit www.HistoricColumbia. org or call 252-1770, ext. 33.
